Attention Teens!

Here is an awesome message from Right to Life of Michigan:

"Because of you . . .

Never question if your involvement with Right to Life of Michigan is making a difference in the lives of mothers and children. The educational and legislative work of Right to Life of Michigan saves lives.

Here are just two examples of how, because of you, real Michigan people have been helped.

Because of Right to Life of Michigan's educational on-line outreaches to teens, a young woman becomes more informed on the life issues while visiting www.teenbreaks.com. Kailey* writes, “This site has made me even more pro-life, and although I was knowledgeable before I never realized how many people struggle with terrible things on a daily basis.”

Recognizing that many teens face tough decisions, Right to Life of Michigan has partnered with www.teenbreaks.com to help teens find answers. Relationships can be... great... confusing... difficult... bad, and breakups can be awful! All these emotions may be compounded as a teen! Teenbreaks.com is an interactive source for teens, meeting them where they are, on-line, and helping them make solid and healthy life choices.

Another area where your support is making a difference is through legislation. The Safe Delivery Act has helped not just teens but mothers of all ages deal with unexpected pregnancies.

Since enacted, the Safe Delivery of Newborns Act has given mothers the chance to place their child with a loving family who is willing to open their hearts and home. Since 2001, there have been 71 babies surrendered.

This act gives a mother the opportunity to surrender her baby to an Emergency Service Provider within 72 hours of the child's birth. This is done anonymously and without criminal prosecution. Upon surrendering these children, private adoption agencies work with families to care for the children. This is a positive alternative for desperate mothers in need. Abortion is legal through all nine months of pregnancy, but these brave women safely surrendered their children.

As prolife supporters, we must continue to educate people of all ages on life issues and to pursue and promote positive alternatives to abortion. Thank you for your involvement with Right to Life of Michigan. Together we are saving lives!

Visit Right to Life of Michigan and take a poll about what prolife issue concerns you the most.

Help us make a difference in Michigan! Your donations are greatly appreciated.

Student Wins Local Oratory Contest

Nathan Schultz, a senior at Lutheran South High School, took first place in the annual Monroe County Right to Life Oratory Contest held Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Monroe Knights of Columbus Hall. Each year Monroe County Right to Life sponsors an oratory contest for high school students. This event involves researching, writing, and presenting a 5 to 7 minute speech on abortion, euthanasia, infanticide, cloning, or stem cell research. Nathan’s topic was abortion giving excellent content with an engaging delivery. Nathan, winner of $100, will advance to the state level competition in Holt, MI on May 9th. He is the son of Rev. Ronald and Christine Schultz of Monroe and plans to attend Concordia College in Wisconsin next year.

Challenging him were four other high school students from the county whose topics included various Right to Life issues. Andrew Jones a sophomore at Dundee High School placed second and with Cynthia Bishara, a senior at Bedford High School placing third. Amanda Sharpe, a sophomore at Monroe High School, and Daniel Passon, a freshman at Saint Mary Catholic Central High School, gave exceptional speeches.

The judges for this year’s event were Larry Feldpausch of Ida, Theresa Kenyon of Monroe, Gary Tester and Dorothy Heinlein both of Dundee. Many thanks to the judges who donated their time and expertise and for the extra effort they gave in explaining their evaluations to the students.

The Monroe County Right to Life is an affiliate of Right to Life of Michigan whose goal is educating the public about life issues. In addition to the Oratory Contest, annual projects include the Monroe County Right to Life Baby Contest at the Monroe County Fair, the Focus on Life Dinner in October, and the Memorial for the Unborn in January.
